On 16 October 2026 we looked at 13 Orpington heating engineers' websites, the ones a customer finds on Google, and checked each against the eight things customers look for before they ring. 8 of the 13 we could measure are slow on a phone. 5 show no price. 2 have everything in place.

If you're a heating engineer in Orpington
Orpington and Petts Wood are commuter streets of 1930s semis and chalet bungalows, almost all on gas. Autumn is boiler-service season and the first cold snap brings a wave of breakdown calls, mostly from people who have never needed an engineer before.
Those buyers want three things in ten seconds: a Gas Safe number, a same-week slot and a price for a service or a repair call-out. Boiler installers who publish a from-price for a swap tend to get the quote request first.
Put the two together and the opening is clear. 5 of the 13 Orpington heating engineers' sites that opened give no price at all, so a clear from-price puts you ahead of them before anyone has read a word. 8 of 13 are slow on a phone, and a phone is where the search happens. A site that opens in under three seconds, says what things cost and shows the Gas Safe badge straight away is already near the top locally.
How we checked
We searched the way a customer does: Google, for heating engineers in Orpington and the postcodes around it. Firms with only a Checkatrade, Yell or Facebook page were left out; this is about businesses that have paid for a website of their own.
For each one we read the home page as a customer would and went through the eight things: speed on a phone (Google's own speed test), badges and accreditations up front, a named owner, photos of jobs, reviews, a price, reply speed and whether it looks cared for. Two of the eight, the named owner and reply speed, can't be read from a page, so they're not counted here.
