Lewisham locksmiths: 14 websites checked

On 16 October 2026 we looked at 14 Lewisham locksmiths' websites, the ones a customer finds on Google, and checked each against the eight things customers look for before they ring. 8 of the 14 we could measure are slow on a phone. 2 show no price. 2 have everything in place.

  • SE13, with Catford, Hither Green, Ladywell and Brockley
  • Firms with their own website
  • Nobody named

What we found

All 14 opened. The counts below are from their home pages.

  1. 8 of 14

    load slow on a phone

Scored under 70 out of 100 on Google's own speed test for phones. The middle score was 65.

Number 1 of the eight: Loads fast

  2. 2 of 14

    show no price at all

No "from" price, call-out fee or rough price anywhere on the home page.

    Number 6 of the eight: A from-price

  3. 7 of 14

use stock photos or almost none

Either a stock library on the home page, or fewer than four photos of any kind.

Number 4 of the eight: Job photos

  4. 3 of 14

    show no reviews

No review, star rating or testimonial on the home page.

Number 5 of the eight: Recent reviews

  5. 4 of 14

    look a bit neglected

2 use a free webmail address for enquiries and 2 still carry an old copyright year in the footer.

Number 8 of the eight: Looks cared for

  6. 2 of 14

    have everything in place

Everything we could check from the home page was there. Things like reply speed need a phone call to find out.

If you're a locksmith in Lewisham

Lewisham locksmith work is mostly emergencies: a lockout on a rainy evening, a snapped key, a lock change after a break-in or a tenancy change. The buyer is stressed, searching on a phone, and will call the first result that looks real and local.

That makes the first screen the whole sale. A local number, a stated response time, a no-call-out-fee or a from-price, a named locksmith and a photo of the actual van beat any amount of copy. The competition is mostly sites with a national number that pass the call on to whoever is free, and they all look alike.

Put the two together and the opening is clear. 2 of the 14 Lewisham locksmiths' sites that opened give no price at all, so a clear from-price puts you ahead of them before anyone has read a word. 8 of 14 are slow on a phone, and a phone is where the search happens. A site that opens in under three seconds, says what things cost and shows the MLA or a DBS check badge straight away is already near the top locally.

How we checked

We searched the way a customer does: Google, for locksmiths in Lewisham and the postcodes around it. Firms with only a Checkatrade, Yell or Facebook page were left out; this is about businesses that have paid for a website of their own.

For each one we read the home page as a customer would and went through the eight things: speed on a phone (Google's own speed test), badges and accreditations up front, a named owner, photos of jobs, reviews, a price, reply speed and whether it looks cared for. Two of the eight, the named owner and reply speed, can't be read from a page, so they're not counted here.

The counts are from 16 October 2026. Sites change, so a firm that was missing something that morning may have it now. We don't name anyone. If you want to know how your own site does, the free check goes through the same eight things and sends you the result.
