Croydon electricians: 16 websites checked
On 16 October 2026 we looked at 16 Croydon electricians' websites, the ones a customer finds on Google, and checked each against the eight things customers look for before they ring. 9 of the 15 we could measure are slow on a phone. 5 show no price. 3 have everything in place.
- CR0 and CR2, with Purley, Coulsdon, Thornton Heath and Addiscombe
- Firms with their own website
- Nobody named
What we found
1 of the 16 wouldn't open at all when we tried. The counts below are from the 15 that did.
- 9 of 15
load slow on a phone
Scored under 70 out of 100 on Google's own speed test for phones. The middle score was 60.
Number 1 of the eight: Loads fast
- 5 of 15
show no price at all
No "from" price, call-out fee or rough price anywhere on the home page.
Number 6 of the eight: A from-price
- 4 of 15
use stock photos or almost none
Either a stock library on the home page, or fewer than four photos of any kind.
Number 4 of the eight: Job photos
- 0 of 15
show no reviews
No review, star rating or testimonial on the home page.
Number 5 of the eight: Recent reviews
- 3 of 15
look a bit neglected
1 uses a free webmail address for enquiries and 2 still carry an old copyright year in the footer.
Number 8 of the eight: Looks cared for
- 3 of 15
have everything in place
Everything we could check from the home page was there. Things like reply speed need a phone call to find out.
If you're an electrician in Croydon
Croydon has one of the largest stocks of rented flats in south London, so landlord EICRs and consumer unit upgrades are the bread and butter. A landlord searching at 9pm wants a from-price and a certificate turnaround, not a gallery of light fittings.
The town centre and the Purley Way estates bring commercial work: shop fit-outs, EV chargers, emergency lighting tests. Those buyers check for a limited company, insurance to a stated figure and an 18th Edition line before they pick up the phone.
Put the two together and the opening is clear. 5 of the 15 Croydon electricians' sites that opened give no price at all, so a clear from-price puts you ahead of them before anyone has read a word. 9 of 15 are slow on a phone, and a phone is where the search happens. A site that opens in under three seconds, says what things cost and shows the NICEIC or NAPIT badge straight away is already near the top locally.
How we checked
We searched the way a customer does: Google, for electricians in Croydon and the postcodes around it. Firms with only a Checkatrade, Yell or Facebook page were left out; this is about businesses that have paid for a website of their own.
For each one we read the home page as a customer would and went through the eight things: speed on a phone (Google's own speed test), badges and accreditations up front, a named owner, photos of jobs, reviews, a price, reply speed and whether it looks cared for. Two of the eight, the named owner and reply speed, can't be read from a page, so they're not counted here.
The counts are from 16 October 2026. Sites change, so a firm that was missing something that morning may have it now. We don't name anyone. If you want to know how your own site does, the free check goes through the same eight things and sends you the result.
Want the same check on your site?
We'll go through your site against the list above and tell you where you'd stand against the 16 we looked at. It's free and the notes are yours to keep.
